National Volunteer Week 2017: Volunteer Spotlight on Lawrence Santos

Lawrence Santos

Lawrence Santos is a Bilingual Advanced Technical Support Specialist who has been living in Miami for 24 years.

1. Why do you volunteer?

I love volunteering every time I get an opportunity to, because since the first time I started volunteering many years ago when I was in high school I learned that by volunteering I'm helping someone in need, and I'm making a positive change in someone's life. And hopefully I can also inspire others to do the same.

2. What has been your most fulfilling volunteering experience with OUT Miami?

I had many great experiences volunteering with OUT Miami, but one of the most fulfilling volunteering experiences was when after we completed our beautification project at the YES Institute, we learned from the staff about everything the Institute does to help our community and how grateful they were to us. And that was a heart touching moment for me because when I was growing up we didn't have places like OUT Miami and many of the other wonderful organizations we have today, and I'm grateful for that.

3. Can you share a dream/hope you have for our local LGBT community?

One of my dreams/hopes is for the LGBTQ community to come together as one strong and caring community, in which every person helps and cares for each other regardless of social status or age, and regardless of whether we are transgender, gay, lesbian or questioning or the way they look, because our community should not have barriers between each other.

Lawrence volunteered as a Team Leader during OUT Miami's Day of Service benefiting YES Institute, April 2017

Lawrence was super excited to volunteer and represent OUT Miami during Pride Weekend 2017!
